Common Name: Pacific Loon
Description: Large, long-bodied swimming bird with straight, dagger-like bill. Dark brownish-gray back with light vertical stripes in winter, checkered patches in summer. Front of neck and chin white in winter with distinct separation from black back of neck, and often with a dark chin strap. Black chin patch in summer with pale gray cap and fine vertical stripes on neck. Gregarious, often travels in large flocks. Sometimes fishes cooperatively.
