Common Name: Wood Duck

Description: A spectacularly colorful duck of wooded swamps and streams. About the size of a Mallard. Breeding male has irridescent green and purple head with long crest, white stripes on head, neck, and body, and blue-green patch on rear of wing, and red eyes. Female gray or brown with bronze and purple sheen. Nests in trees and nest boxes.
